KUALA LUMPUR, 27 Jun -- Skuad hoki wanita kebangsaan perlu menunggu sehingga hujung Julai untuk memulakan sesi latihan biarpun skuad lelaki bakal turun padang menjalani latihan tanpa kontak bermula Rabu ini.
Ini kerana Konfederasi Hoki Malaysia (KHM) mahu terlebih dahulu menyelesaikan proses pemilihan ketua jurulatih baharu skuad ‘The Malaysian Tigress’ itu, yang sepatutnya selesai April lepas, sebelum memulakan latihan pasukan.
Timbalan Presiden KHM, Prof Dr S. Shamala yakin proses memilih jurulatih, yang tergendala ekoran pandemik COVID-19 sejak Mac, dapat diselesaikan dalam masa sebulan lagi apabila pihaknya menyambung balik proses temu duga pada minggu depan.
“Kita nak selesaikan proses memilih jurulatih dahulu kerana jurulatih memainkan peranan penting dalam pemillihan pemain dan perancangan pasukan untuk empat hingga lapan tahun lagi. Kita belum temu duga 12 calon dari luar negara, manakala bagi calon tempatan, kita dah selesai temu duga 10 daripada 11 calon.
“Kita ada nama-nama yang baik dari luar negara, tetapi penundaan Sukan Olimpik ke Julai 2021 boleh menjejaskan kesediaan beberapa calon. Sepatutnya Olimpik berlangsung Julai ini, tetapi perubahan ini mungkin menyebabkan kontrak mereka dilanjutkan setahun lagi, jadi kita kena buat perbincangan dahulu,” katanya kepada Bernama di Stadium Hoki Nasional, hari ini.
My Comments - full of excuses. The National Women team been inactive mode since June last year. Just tell no funds available and without any concrete plan to achieve International success. Awaiting to convince NSC to bail out this appointment again. Pity, as NSC knowledge on hockey is very limited, therefore another round of public funds will be burnt without any glory to the Nation. Since 2015, total of 21 million spent for Men & Women National Teams activities but only success is Silver Medal at 2018 Asian Games & Gold Medals at Sea Games.

Since 2015, MHC have engaged 8 Foreign Consultant/Coach but the results achieved are mediocre except for winning the Silver Medal in 2018 Asian Games.
What are the Target Settings by MHC for the Women Coach?
Make sure MHC goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:
- Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
- Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
- Achievable (agreed, attainable).
- Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
- Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

Yearly milestone to achieve by National Women Coach?
Setting Milestones is an important aspect. The process allows you to create a clear and attainable plan, while enabling you to see and monitor your progress. Does MHC have the relevant milestones? Doubt it and then how to measure you're on the right path towards your goals. Without milestones, how do you gauge that the appointed Coach is performing. Then it becomes a blind leading another blind.
What are MHC quarterly & yearly goals or only decide after the appointment. As usual putting the cart before the horse. Most Foreigners using Malaysia as their retirement home and enjoy the good packages. They love our Nation due to beautiful sun & food.

- Must have minimum qualification of FIH Level 1
- More than 10 years of Coaching experience
- Must handled one of the National Team (minimum period of 4 years)
- Quality Success Profile with a list of achievement with the various national team and at least has coached a Olympic or World Cup team and attain results.
- List of know-how and experience on Technologies related to sport of hockey.
- Latest training methodology taking into account of changing phases of modern
hockey.
- Manner of experience and interaction with supporting team such as sports science, fitness, physiology, strength, dietitian and psychologist.
Note: Preference to be given to local Coaches, if couldn't match the requirement, then only source for a Foreigner.
Who decides on the Selection process? Is an Independent Panel to recommend the names of Coaches to EB? Or keeping it in-house as Internal control. Or one man show again to dictate the selection.
Why are Independent Panel so important in making the right decision? Independent panel guarantee a high degree of impartiality in decisions over selecting the right candidates. Usually, the members selected are people with high technical knowledge of the subject matter. They shall provide the assurance to the general public that the procedures are transparent. Currently, just guess who is the MHC Coaching Chairman? and also the same person that chairs the Executive Board (EB).
After shortlisting the 3 or 4 Coaches, ask them to present in detail to the EB on how they would bring success & glory to the Nation.
Then the selected one, put his presentation details as part of his contract appendix and making it a legal binding agreement. This would allow MHC to fire him if he fails on his promises and avoid any long stay of non-performers.
So please think wisely and be vigilant in the appointment processes. Hope not a scenario of "successful operations but the patient dies". It's public funds and therefore accountability & sincerity in the system must be at professional level.
NSC must be asking the right questions and look into reality before agreeing on the appointment. NSC need to be prudent in spending public funds without any favourable results.
